Before → afterAndroid users have more options than ever to clean up their shots, but the process isn't always as simple as a single tap. Whether you are using a flagship Pixel, a high-end Samsung Galaxy, or a budget-friendly device from another manufacturer, the goal is the same: you want to delete someone who ruined a perfect moment without leaving a blurry smudge behind. While mobile hardware has improved, the software often struggles with complex backgrounds or crowded scenes.
Many Android phones offer built-in editing tools, but availability and menus vary by model and app version. Furthermore, the quality of the edit depends heavily on the original file. If you are trying to fix a snap that was sent to you over a messaging app, the compressed quality can make on-device erasers fail, leaving you with a messy, pixelated result.
In this guide, we will look at the native tools available on the most popular Android phones and explain when it makes more sense to use a browser-based AI tool. If you want to get rid of a stranger without the hassle of manual brushing or masking, our tool at removepeople.ai offers a plain-language interface that works directly in your mobile browser, regardless of which phone you own.
This is one situation the tool handles. Remove people from any photo — upload yours and describe who should go.
Using Google Photos Magic Eraser on Android
Open the picture in the Google Photos app and tap Edit. Search for Magic Eraser, or look under Actions if it appears there on your device. Tap a suggested distraction, or circle or brush over the person yourself, then tap Erase and Done. Compare the result with the original by pressing and holding the preview; save a copy if you want to keep the original. Google notes that tool availability varies by device and that some editing tools must be installed before use.
Check hair, hands, shadows and repeating details such as railings before saving. If the person overlaps someone you want to keep, try a smaller selection or another photo; an AI fill has to invent the hidden detail, so a clean result is not guaranteed.
Samsung's Object Eraser for Galaxy Users
On supported Galaxy phones, open a picture in Samsung Gallery, tap the Intelligence features icon (three stars), and choose Object eraser. Tap or draw around the person, tap Erase, then Save or Save copy. Samsung's current instructions use that route; older Galaxy software may place the tool elsewhere in the editor.
Object Eraser is convenient when you can select one distraction clearly. For a crowd, inspect each filled area at full size, especially where bodies overlap people or buildings you need to preserve. Save a copy so you can compare and try again.
The WhatsApp Problem: Editing Compressed Images
If a friend sent you a small copy through a messaging app, ask for the original file before editing when possible. Fine details that are missing from the copy cannot be recovered with certainty by any eraser.
You can still try the compressed picture in Google Photos, Samsung Gallery or our browser editor, but inspect the result closely before you share or print it. A second tool may produce a more pleasing fill; it cannot know exactly what was hidden behind the person.
A Better Way: Remove People via Your Browser
If your phone has no eraser, or you want to remove several people with one instruction, open removepeople.ai in your mobile browser. Upload the photo and describe who should go, for example 'everyone behind the couple'. You do not need to brush around each person.
The homepage has prepared sample photos you can try without paying. Editing your own photo requires the $4.99 one-time pack for three HD edits or a subscription; paid downloads have no watermark. Your photo is processed in memory, is not stored on our servers, and is not used for model training. Review the result before downloading, particularly around overlapping people.
